Child and Youth Care Certification

The Child and Youth Care Certification Board awards professional certification (CYC-P) for individuals who demonstrate advanced education, training, and skills in the field of child and youth care work.

Certification is a means for practitioners to demonstrate their commitment to professional practice and higher standards. The professional certification program is an effort by Child and Youth Care practitioners to increase quality standards for child and youth care across North America.

Successful candidates are those who demonstrate a full range of knowledge and skills of competent practice. They often have experience in multiple practice settings in a variety of direct care, program, supervisory, and/ or administrative roles. Many provide supervision to other personnel, develop programs, or they serve as administrators, researchers, or trainers.

Requirements for certification include:

  • 5 years of experience in the field (or less with related education)
  • 250 hours of documented training across the competency domains
  • Passing exam score
  • Completed application and portfolio
  • Membership in a professional organization
  • Supervisor assessment and two professional references

The CYCANL has adopted this certification model and is very pleased to announce that certification testing is now available in Newfoundland and Labrador. If certification opportunities become available we will be sure to reach out via email and post on our social media. Further information on certification is available at www.cyccb.org.

If you are interested in writing the certification exam, please reach out to us at membership@cycanl.ca and we will forward the request appropriately.
